Björns Trädgård – Medborgarplatsen – Stockholm. Stockholm’s first vertical garden.

Butong was chosen for its low maintenance costs when the Stockholm City Real Estate Office was to carry out its first green wall project. It is located in the middle of the lively Södermalm in a place where there is social activity day and night. A bit of a tough situation for a green wall where people like to lean against the wall and scratch against the wall when they walk past each other in the narrow stairs. One thing worth noting is that since the green facade came up, there has been no vandalism. The original facade was scrawled down about 1 month before the green wall was completed.

The plants have been selected based on a number of criteria where the most important was – evergreens, overwintering in a beautiful condition or gentle return. Plants with beautiful flowers and classic Swedish were also chosen. Most species can be found in various areas nearby.

The planting took place in two ways. One where parts of roots and seeds mixed into the plant bed before the plant wall module was joined together. The second where seedlings and cuttings were planted from the outside.
